Our client is an engineering-led supplier of pumping systems, prime movers, power transmission products, and industrial equipment, supporting factories, institutions, contractors, and distributors with technical products and engineered solutions. The organization provides warranty support, maintenance, repairs, and ongoing technical services.
Role Context
They are seeking a commercially driven and technically competent Technical Sales Engineer to develop and grow sales of pump systems and related engineered solutions. This role is ideal for a candidate who can understand customer applications, recommend fit-for-purpose products, prepare technical quotations, and build long-term client relationships across agricultural, commercial, industrial, and infrastructure sectors. The successful candidate must be professional, responsive, solution-oriented, and capable of representing the company with technical credibility and strong customer service standards.
Responsibilities
- Identify and develop new business opportunities for pumps, pumping systems, control panels, accessories, and related engineering services.
- Meet clients, consultants, contractors, farm operators, institutions, and industrial users to understand project requirements and application needs.
- Assess duty conditions such as flow, head, fluid type, power source, installation environment, and control requirements to recommend suitable solutions.
- Prepare clear and accurate quotations, proposals, and product recommendations for equipment such as end suction pumps, borehole and submersible pumps, sewage pumps, booster sets, firefighting pumps, chemical pumps, transfer pumps, and associated controls.
- Work closely with the engineering and workshop teams to confirm specifications, lead times, technical feasibility, and scope of supply before submission of offers.
- Follow up actively on quotations, negotiate within approved commercial parameters, and convert opportunities into confirmed sales.
- Maintain an up-to-date sales pipeline and customer records in the company ERP or CRM system, including lead status, site notes, quotations, and follow-up actions.
- Conduct site visits where necessary to gather technical information, verify existing installations, and support correct product selection.
- Coordinate with internal teams on order processing, delivery schedules, installation requirements, commissioning needs, and customer handover.
- Provide professional after-sales follow-up to confirm customer satisfaction, address issues promptly, and identify repeat business or upgrade opportunities.
- Handle client complaints professionally and constructively, ensuring concerns are acknowledged, investigated, and resolved promptly in coordination with the relevant internal teams.
- Support debt collection follow-up on completed sales in coordination with accounts and management, while maintaining professional customer relationships.
- Monitor market activity, pricing trends, competitor offerings, and customer feedback, and present relevant insights to management.
- Participate in product training, technical learning, and sales development initiatives to strengthen application knowledge and commercial effectiveness.
- Represent the company professionally in all customer interactions and uphold high standards of technical accuracy, responsiveness, and service.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Water Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related technical field.
- Previous experience in technical sales, application engineering, pump sales, electromechanical equipment, irrigation systems, water systems, or a related engineering field is preferred.
- Candidates who have worked in similar companies selling pumps, pumping systems, or related equipment will have an added advantage.
- Experience using ERP or CRM systems is desirable, and candidates with prior experience using Odoo ERP will have an advantage.
- Ability to interpret customer requirements and convert them into commercially and technically suitable solutions.
- A good understanding of technical terminology used in pump and control system applications is required, including terms such as head, flow, cavitation, duty point, star-delta starters, and DOL starters.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to prepare professional quotations and communicate confidently with technical and non-technical clients.
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in specifications, pricing, and follow-up.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and confidence in preparing reports, quotations, and technical correspondence.
- Ability to manage multiple opportunities simultaneously and work effectively under deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving skills, customer focus, and a professional approach to sales, service, and relationship management.
