Background
The African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS) is a leading African research and policy think tank working on the nexus of technology, innovation, and sustainable development. ACTS is implementing a project on Climate Change Adaptation in East Africa, funded by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC). The project aims to enhance the capacity of local communities and institutions to adapt to the impacts of climate change.
Responsibilities
The Senior Programme Officer will be responsible for the overall management and implementation of the Climate Change Adaptation project. Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and managing project work plans, budgets, and timelines.
- Coordinating project activities with partners, stakeholders, and beneficiaries.
- Conducting research and analysis on climate change adaptation issues.
- Organizing and facilitating workshops, training sessions, and stakeholder meetings.
- Monitoring and evaluating project progress and impact.
- Preparing project reports and dissemination of findings.
- Contributing to the development of new project proposals.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A Master's degree in Environmental Science, Climate Change, Development Studies, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in project management, preferably in climate change adaptation or sustainable development.
- Strong research, analytical, and report writing skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience working with international development partners and local communities is an asset.
Experience
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
Additional Details
This is a full-time position based in Nairobi, Kenya. The contract will be for one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability.
