Background
Prior to 1974, the Ministry of Water and Irrigation was a department in the Ministry of Agriculture. After this year, the Ministry was constituted and remained thus till 1992 when it Was merged with other departments to form the Ministry of Land Reclamation and Regional Development. After 1998, the Ministry was merged to form the Ministry of Water Resources.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Senior Instructor KEWI 6 reports to the Principal Instructor KEWI 5. Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:
- Preparing and conducting practical programmes within a specific department, research, consultancy technical services and outreach;
- Participating in development/review of workshop procedures/schedules for specific practical training manuals under the department;
- Implementing workshops procedures/practical manuals, and practical programmes within a specific section department, research, consultancy technical services and outreach
- Maintaining safety and security of workshops and laboratories structures and recourses within a specific department, research, consultancy technical services and outreach,
- Updating inventory records of a specific workshop under a department,
- Maintain workshops equipment calibrations within a specific section, research, consultancy technical services and outreach
- Carrying out maintenance and repairs schedule of teaching aids workshops/Laboratories facilities in specific workshops within a department
- Undertaking research/ field activities and services in the workshops; and
- Undertaking consultancy field activities and services in the workshops.
Person Specification
For appointment to this grade an officer must have:
- Served for a cumulative period of nine (9) years relevant work experience three (3) of which must have been in the grade of Instructor I or in a comparable position;
- Diploma in any of the following disciplines: -Water / Civil / Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or its equivalent qualification from a recognised institution;
- Certificate in Training of Trainers (TOT) course lasting not less than six (6) months in a recognised Institutions;
- Membership to a relevant professional body and in good standing where applicable;
- Proficiency in computer applications; and
- Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
