Our client is a leading multinational in the telecommunications sector. They have retained our services to support hiring process for a high calibre safety, environment, risk and quality Manager to be based at their Nairobi office.

Reporting to the CEO the SHERQ Manager will ensure the company’s Quality, Safety, Health, Environmental and Risk Management systems are developed, implemented, maintained, and adhered to at all levels of the organization. That the company is fully compliant with all statutory and regulatory requirements in relation to Health, safety and environmental practices, including Fire Safety, Emergency Preparedness & Response, Accidents/Incidents Management, PPE Compliance, Provision of Welfare Facilities, Hygiene, Housekeeping, Occupational health management, Electromechanical safety, Environmental Sustainability, Employee Welfare & Engagement, Contractors/ Visitors Management and EHS Compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement company’s policies, plans and programs to meet national and international regulations and standards,

Conduct safety inspections and audits to identify gaps and ensure all activities within the company are conducted in adherence to all safety requirements,

Enforce company’s HSE policies, procedures, regulations, and standards,

Develop emergency procedures and deploy accordingly

Ensure compliance with customer, legal and other relevant requirements,

Determines requirements for personal protective equipment (PPEs) and other safety devices,

Investigate work related incidents including near-misses to prevent recurrence and prepare investigation reports,

Conduct/ coordinate toolbox meetings and other safety briefings,

Identify health and safety hazards and recommend corrective actions,

Coordinate waste management, and ensure all waste is handled as per company and legal requirements,

Coordinate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions accounting and reduction program and ensure related records are well kept,

Improve road and driving safety by enforcing driving regulations and following up on driving behavior using the company’s tracking platforms,

Ensure proper record keeping for all relevant documents related to SHERQ,

Work closely with operations managers and supervisors to ensure the implementation of SHERQ Policies within field and office teams,

Conduct periodic SHERQ related awareness meeting and communicate to all staff about important safety alerts,

Supervise the usage of safety tools and personal protective equipment to ensure that they are used properly without causing harm to users.

Required Key Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in engineering (preferred), Occupational health & safety or related field

Minimum of 4 years of work experience in occupational health and safety within the telecommunications, manufacturing, energy, or oil and gas industries

Safety Certification and/ or training on work at Height, Electrical Safety, defensive driving and First Aid Training

Professional certifications (ISO 45001 Lead Auditor, NEBOSH is an added advantage

A confident, assertive, effective problem solver and decision maker.

Ability to work under pressure and deliver results to tight deadlines.

Good and effective communication skills

Valid driving license category B is an added advantage
