Background
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global authority on the environment. Its Communications Division drives UNEP’s efforts to raise awareness and inspire action worldwide through multimedia storytelling. In 2026, UNEP will deliver several major communications outputs including UNEA-7, global campaigns such as World Environment Day and Champions of the Earth, and continuous multimedia storytelling through its Climate Action, Nature Action, and Pollution Action series. Effective, accessible video communication, combining voice, presence, and authentic field content, is central to UNEP’s ability to connect global audiences with environmental progress and challenges.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Head of Multimedia, the consultant will perform the following functions:
- Voice Over and Narration: Record professional voice overs for UNEP’s campaign videos, explainers, and corporate content in line with UNEP editorial and brand guidelines. Collaborate with producers to interpret scripts, ensure clear tone and pacing, and deliver consistent vocal branding. Support multilingual adaptations where required, coordinating timing and style for translated versions.
- Roving Reporter and On-Screen Presentation: Serve as an on-screen presenter for selected UNEP video products and live or pre-recorded segments during events such as UNEA-7 or World Environment Day. Conduct on-camera interviews with UNEP experts, youth leaders, and delegates. Prepare short field reports or event summaries, maintaining accuracy, professionalism, and accessibility.
- Self-Shot Video Production: Plan, film, and edit short self-shot videos that complement UNEP’s campaign and digital outputs. Mentor and coordinate contributors, including youth representatives or field partners, to ensure consistent quality of self-filmed content. Support remote production workflows, including technical onboarding, file delivery, and content review.
- Collaboration and Editorial Support: Work closely with UNEP’s production team to integrate voice over, on-camera, and self-shot materials into cohesive multimedia stories. Contribute to creative ideation sessions and provide input on scriptwriting, story structure, and visual tone. Ensure all content aligns with UNEP’s editorial, branding, and accessibility standards.
- Event and Campaign Support: Participate in on-site or remote coverage of UNEP events, producing quickturnaround video pieces for social and web distribution. Support campaign visibility by providing dynamic voice, presence, and storytelling through UNEP’s YouTube and digital channels.
Qualifications/Special Skills
Diploma in Communications, journalism, media production or another relevant field is required. At least three years of experience working as a voice over artist, reporter, or self-shot video producer is required. Familiarity with remote production workflows, cloud storage tools, and standard video formats is required. Excellent communication, storytelling, and organizational skills is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position fluency in English is required.
Additional Information
Result of Service: High-quality video products are produced and delivered across UNEP’s multimedia outputs — including campaign explainers, event reports, and self-shot stories — that amplify UNEP’s global messaging and enhance its digital presence.
