Responsibilities or duties
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and conduct rehearsals and performances across African and Western music ensembles
- Curate, arrange, and prepare repertoire that reflects both the African musical heritage and the Western classical and contemporary canon
- Coordinate and supervise sectional rehearsals to address technical and stylistic challenges specific to African ensemble performance as well as Western instrumental performance
- Develop and implement performance frameworks that allow students to engage meaningfully with both traditions, fostering cross-cultural musicianship without compromising the integrity of either
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
Qualifications and skills
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Music or related from a recognized university.
- Must have strong knowledge of and demonstrated ability to proficiently play a wide variety of Western and African musical instruments.
- Must be a registered member of a recognized professional body such as the Music Copyright Society of Kenya or any other relevant professional association in Kenya.
- Must possess relevant professional qualifications and demonstrated competence in performance and instruction of Western and African musical instruments
Experience needed
- Must have a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in performing and teaching a variety of Western and African musical instruments.
