Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
- Master’s degree in library science, Information Science or Library studies from a recognized Institution. PhD Degree will be an added advantage
- Bachelor’s degree in library science, Information Science of Library studies from a recognized Institution
- Evidence of professional growth and membership in a relevant Association
- Experience with library systems, Databases and Academic Information Resources
- Strong leadership, Management and communication skills
Experience needed
- Served as Assistant Librarian for a Minimum of three (3) years
- Published 1 article in a peer reviewed journal
Responsibilities or duties
- Plan for the continued growth of the library and the curriculum material center in collaboration with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic and Student Affairs.
- Prepare strategic plans for the library and quarterly reports for the library.
- Compile statistics and reports relating to the use of the library.
- Supervise the work of library employees in cataloguing, classification, circulation, indexing and preservation of library materials.
- Ensure and maintain a studious atmosphere in the library.
- Receive and expedite all library book requests and periodically, within budget limitations.
- Make monthly reports on all acquisitions and additions for the departments, together with reports on unused funds for which no requests have been received.
- Work with Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic and Student Affairs to increase the procurement of library books and subscription to electronic library resources.
- Ensure optimal utilization of library
- Keep abreast with new technological trends relevant to the library
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic and |Student Affairs.
