Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

  • Master’s degree in library science, Information Science or Library studies from a recognized Institution. PhD Degree will be an added advantage
  • Bachelor’s degree in library science, Information Science of Library studies from a recognized Institution
  • Evidence of professional growth and membership in a relevant Association
  • Experience with library systems, Databases and Academic Information Resources
  • Strong leadership, Management and communication skills

Experience needed

  • Served as Assistant Librarian for a Minimum of three (3) years
  • Published 1 article in a peer reviewed journal

Responsibilities or duties

  • Plan for the continued growth of the library and the curriculum material center in collaboration with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic and Student Affairs.
  • Prepare strategic plans for the library and quarterly reports for the library.
  • Compile statistics and reports relating to the use of the library.
  • Supervise the work of library employees in cataloguing, classification, circulation, indexing and preservation of library materials.
  • Ensure and maintain a studious atmosphere in the library.
  • Receive and expedite all library book requests and periodically, within budget limitations.
  • Make monthly reports on all acquisitions and additions for the departments, together with reports on unused funds for which no requests have been received.
  • Work with Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic and Student Affairs to increase the procurement of library books and subscription to electronic library resources.
  • Ensure optimal utilization of library
  • Keep abreast with new technological trends relevant to the library
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic and |Student Affairs.
