Nyangena Hospital is a private Level 5 facility located along the Suneka-Migori road in Kisii County, Kenya. Responsibilities or duties
The employee shall be responsible to the immediate supervisor/ HOD for implementation of laboratory technician services in the Hospital.
Professionally, humbly and cordially listen to stranded clients and offer assistance where necessary or personally escort client to the relevant office for assistance
Promptly identify, clerk (including past medical history), determine relevance of investigation to diagnose clients and communicate immediately to requesting clinician/medical team in case of disparity.
Coordinate and facilitate investigations requested to be done promptly and avail results in the files according to the service charter
Receive, label and analyse samples
Investigations done prior to visiting the facility MUST be copied and inserted in the file and or uploaded to the HMIS.
Schedule and follow-up appointments for investigations requiring client preparation
For out-sourced services, coordinate and facilitate client preparation, booking and transfer client or sample to the facility with out-sourced service and avail results in file and HMIS
Ensure continuity of care by implementing proper focused handing over protocols to the next shift staff
Perform laboratory investigations and procedures according to scope of practise
Ensure client privacy and confidentiality is maintained at all times while interacting with the patient
Immediately seek medical officer interpretation for basic investigations and send to a specialist laboratory for a specialist report when required.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
Education: Bachelor of Science (BSc) or Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science
Registration & Licensure: Must be registered and licensed by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB).
Experience needed
Experience: Often requires 2-3 years of post-registration experience in a clinical or research laboratory.
Any other provided details (e.g., benefits, work environment, team info, or additional notes)
Certification: Specialized certifications, such as phlebotomy training or knowledge of ISO 15189 standards, are highly regarded.
