Job Objective:

The IP Network Planner is responsible for designing, planning, documenting and optimizing IP networks across core, aggregation and access domains. The role ensures scalable, resilient and high‑performance network infrastructure by producing high‑quality architectural designs (HLDs/LLDs), forecasting capacity, maintaining accurate network records and guiding end‑to‑end implementation in collaboration with cross‑functional engineering teams.

Reporting Line: Principal IP Architect

Key Duties and Responsibilities

IP Network Design and Architecture

Plan, design and optimize IP/MPLS networks across core, edge, aggregation, and data‑center environments

Develop resilient routing architectures including BGP, IS‑IS/OSPF, MPLS L2/L3 services, Internet transit and peering strategies

Produce architectural deliverables such as capacity models, traffic‑engineering approaches, redundancy frameworks and service‑specific infrastructure blueprints

High‑Level and Low‑Level Design Documentation (HLD/LLD)

Create comprehensive High‑Level Designs (HLDs) describing architectural intent, technology selection, network topology, inter‑domain integration, performance assumptions and scalability plans

Develop detailed Low‑Level Designs (LLDs) including IP addressing plans, interface‑level specifications, routing policies, protocol configurations, traffic‑engineering parameters and implementation workflows

Ensure all design documentation adheres to internal engineering standards, quality controls and compliance requirements

Implementation Oversight and Delivery Assurance

Oversee the full implementation lifecycle of IP network solutions

Collaborate with Field Engineering, Network Operations, NOC, PMO and suppliers to validate deployments

Conduct design sign‑off, engineering governance and post‑implementation verification

Ensure implementation updates are reflected in planning systems and network inventory platforms

Capacity, Resource and Inventory Planning

Forecast IP network capacity needs across routing, switching, traffic flows and peering/transit services

Conduct audits on IP network utilization and resource allocation

Maintain accurate network inventory including addressing schemes, interfaces, ports, configurations

Documentation, Compliance and Governance

Maintain updated technical documentation including diagrams, routing policies, service delivery models

Help refine company network planning standards, policies and procedures

Ensure designs comply with security, operational and regulatory standards

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

Work with Project Managers, Operations, Field Engineering and Network Architects.

Support departments in alignment with organization planning responsibilities

Technical Analysis and Optimization

Conduct network performance assessments

Recommend improvements for scalability, efficiency and modernization

Support troubleshooting escalations related to design concerns

Reporting and Stakeholder Management

Prepare technical reports, capacity analyses and planning assessments

Support budget planning, vendor evaluation and contract/PO management activities

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Engineering or equivalent

Master’s degree is an advantage

Experience and Skills

Strong proficiency in IP networking technologies

Experience producing professional HLDs and LLDs

Strong understanding of capacity planning and traffic engineering

Experience with NMS/EMS/OSS/BSS tools and automation

Strong documentation and analytical skills

Ability to guide engineering teams during implementation
