HEVA is the region’s first dedicated investment, advisory, and knowledge solutions group for the creative industries. We are a partnership registered in Kenya, working with creative industry practitioners and business owners across 14 countries in the Eastern Africa region, and in partnership with investors and benefactors from around the world. Since our inception in 2013, we have developed a strong track record in raising and deploying capital for Cultural and Creative Industries (CCIs) and have so far made commercial investments in more than 100 creative businesses. We have developed innovative and responsive financial instruments (debt-based, revenue share, convertible working capital solutions, and asset finance) and provided technical and entrepreneurial support for CCIs at all levels of growth (seed, early-stage, and growth). Throughout our investments, we have consistently made investments in women-owned and youth-owned businesses, which comprise 70% of our investment portfolio. Our mission is to fuel the growth of the creative industries in Africa, empower burgeoning youth-led and women-led digital and creative enterprises, promote business and intellectual property ownership, and contribute to sustainable livelihoods for cultural practitioners and artisans.
About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented intern to support our Programs teams in managing day-to-day financial operations, grant-related documentation, and reporting processes. This role is ideal for someone with an interest in grants management, project finance, and donor-funded programmes who is eager to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting documentation for grants and programmes.
- Support the preparation of payment requests, expense reports, and reconciliations.
- Help track project budgets and expenditure against approved allocations.
- Assist in compiling financial data for donor and internal reports.
- Participate in audits and compliance checks by ensuring proper filing and documentation.
- Guide grantees during the application process, ensuring they understand eligibility, documentation, and submission requirements.
- Support communication with grantees, including responding to inquiries and following up on submissions and reporting timelines.
- Participate in field visits to support monitoring, data verification, and documentation of grant activities.
- Maintain an organised grants filing system (both physical and digital) for easy retrieval of documentation.
- Support general administrative and operational tasks as assigned by the Grants and Programs team.
