The World Food Programme is the food assistance branch of the United Nations and the world's largest humanitarian organization addressing hunger and promoting food security.

The internship aims to strengthen WFP Kenya’s nutrition portfolio by supporting the design, implementation, monitoring, and documentation of interventions across the three programmatic areas: Management of Acute Malnutrition, Positive Deviance (PD) Hearth, and Food Fortification.

This internship is directly aligned with the 2026 workplan priorities under the CSP 2023–2027, which emphasize:

  • Scaling up prevention-focused approaches to malnutrition.
  • Supporting resilience hubs through PD Hearth.
  • Strengthening national systems and regulatory frameworks for food fortification.
  • Enhancing reporting, knowledge management, and donor engagement to close funding gaps.

Responsibilities or duties

Under the supervision of the Head of Nutrition, the intern will:

Programme Design and Implementation

  • Support roll-out of WHO transition plan, PD Hearth, and fortification initiatives.
  • Assist in drafting proposals, concept notes, programme documents, and government guidelines.

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Field Support

  • Conduct field visits to monitor implementation, and support data collection and analysis.
  • Prepare monitoring reports and document lessons learned.

Reporting and Knowledge Management

  • Contribute to donor reports, annual country reports, programme reviews and presentations
  • Draft case studies on nutrition interventions.

Partnership and Coordination

  • Accompany WFP officials to meetings and workshops with government, UN, NGOs, and other partners
  • Document partnership activities and outcomes.

Expected Outcome

  • Gain practical experience in nutrition programme design, implementation, and monitoring.
  • Strengthen skills in data analysis, reporting, and donor engagement.
  • Develop knowledge of multisectoral nutrition programming, SBCC, and emergency preparedness.
  • Build capacity in partnership management and inter-agency coordination.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

Education: A recent graduate (within the last 6 months) with a Bachelors in Human Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, Sociology, Social Work, Programme Management in Humanitarian Settings.

Language: Fluency in Oral and written English.

Computer literacy: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).

Additional Skills

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong data analysis and reporting skills.
  • Ability to manage large workloads under time constraints.
  • Courtesy, tact, and ability to work effectively with colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds.
