Background of the assignment:

Within the framework of the UNODC Regional Programme for Eastern Africa (2016-2023) and its respective mandates, UNODC, through its Regional Office for Eastern Africa (ROEA) and its Transnational Organized Crime and Terrorism Prevention Programmes, in close coordination with the Terrorism Prevention Branch in the headquarters, aims to promote and support effective responses by Member States in Eastern Africa to transnational organized crime and terrorism at the legal, policy and technical levels in accordance with the rule of law and human rights standards. In the context of the global counter-terrorism efforts, UNODC is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to provide technical assistance to Member States, upon request, to strengthen the capacity of their criminal justice systems to prevent and counter acts of terrorism. UNODC does this through: promoting the ratification of the 19 international legal instruments against terrorism; supporting the drafting and review of national legislation in order to incorporate the legal standards of these international legal instruments; supporting to build the capacity of national criminal justice officials to undertake rule of law and human rights compliant criminal justice measures against terrorism; and supporting regional and international cooperation in criminal matters, in particular in relation to requests for mutual legal assistance and extradition. Accordingly, the UNODC ROEA Transnational Organized Crime and Terrorism Prevention Programmes, and the UNODC Terrorism Prevention Branch, are pivotal in implementing UNODC's mandate to assist Member States in preventing, suppressing and prosecuting transnational organized crime, terrorism and related offences in Eastern Africa. In turn, the latter programmes are implemented through various outputs and activities, including technical and legal advice, capacity building through training activities, mentoring and provision of equipment, and facilitation of national coordination and international cooperation. In 2025, UNODC is implementing several projects including a project to modernize the Kenya National Police Service, Main College in Kiganjo. The project will aim to support the College strengthened knowledge development, enhanced instructor capacity and talent management, refurbishment of infrastructure, upgrade equipment and enhance pro-active communications. UNODC will launch a gender focused project titles 'Empowering Every Badge' which will to support law enforcement officers, particularly women to became integral parts of the criminal justice system in Eastern Africa

  • In liaison with programme managers and using existing layouts and templates to ensure coherent visuals with previous publications, present cohesive, coherent, and creative design for the upcoming publications under the Kiganjo Project, the EEB project and any other TOC project including banners, templates for concept notes, factsheets, reports, notebooks, pocket folders, pens, social media cards.
  • Finalize all digital and print designs in line with decisions elaborated through an iterative consultative process.
  • Ensure that all products, documents, materials, and events give appropriate visibility to respective donors, including the correct application of logos, acknowledgement statement and standard disclaimers.
  • Demonstrated experience with graphic design (Portfolio)
  • Understanding of typography
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud suits, including Acrobat, InDesign, Illustrator, as well as in Microsoft 365 software
  • Develop, design and build creative solutions that align with UNODC mandate
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A diploma in graphic design, visual communication, marketing and digital design, information technology, public relations, or related discipline is desirable.
  • A minimum of 3 years of work experience with graphic design and visual communication is required.
