Job summary

The ideal candidate will bring both advanced clinical skills and effective leadership qualities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise the nursing staff with a specific emphasis on maternity management, ensuring safe, patient-centered care during prenatal, delivery, and postnatal stages.
  • Oversee patient admissions, discharges, and maternity care plans, aligning with hospital standards and best practices for maternal and infant health.
  • Develop and implement maternity-focused policies and procedures in collaboration with hospital leadership to uphold quality care standards.
  • Ensure adequate staffing and resource management in the maternity ward, adapting schedules to meet patient needs.
  • Provide continuous training, mentorship, and support for nursing staff in both clinical skills and essential soft skills, including empathy, communication, and conflict resolution.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and training sessions focused on enhancing both practical and interpersonal skills of the maternity staff.
  • Foster effective communication with patients and families, addressing concerns to enhance patient experience and promote a compassionate environment.
  • Ensure strict compliance with healthcare regulations, patient safety protocols, and infection control standards within the maternity department.

Minimum Qualification and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) or a related field; a Master’s degree in Nursing, Midwifery, or Healthcare Management is advantageous.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Kenya.
  • At least 5 years of nursing experience, with a minimum of 2 years in maternity or obstetric management and 2+ years in a supervisory role.
  • Demonstrated expertise in both practical maternity care and soft skills essential for high-quality patient interactions.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of healthcare regulations, specifically regarding maternity care in Level 4 hospitals.
