County Government of Kisumu invites applications from suitably qualified, motivated and pro- active individuals to fill vacancies in the following position:

Responsibilities or duties

  • Coordinating, implementing statutory provisions and other relevant legislation on urban development;
  • Coordinating and implementing urban development programs;
  • Evaluating urban development projects;
  • Overseeing the development and implementation of vision 2030 as far as urban infrastructure is concerned;
  • Overseeing development and implementation of strategic work plans, performance targets and contracts;
  • Preparing budgets and procurement plans for the urban development section;
  • Overseeing staff development, coaching and mentoring;
  • Spearheading in research, monitoring & evaluation on urban development agenda;
  • Management of government building and estate management; and
  • Advising on leasing of private premises.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

  • Be a Kenyan Citizen
  • Bachelors Degree in any of the following disciplines: Urban and Regional Planning; Urban Planning; Town Planning or equivalent qualification from recognized institution
  • Masters Degree in any of the following disciplines: - Urban Planning or Development Urban and Regional Planning; Urban Planning; Town Planning or any other and equivalent qualification from recognized institution;
  • Certificate in Strategic Leadership Development Programme lasting not less than six (6) weeks from a recognized institution;
  • Fully registered with Kenya Institute for Planners (KIP) or Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK);
  • Proficiency in computer application skills;

Experience needed

  • Cumulative service period of ten (10) relevant years' work experience, three (3) of which should have been at senior management;

Any other provided details (e.g., benefits, work environment, team info, or additional notes)

  • Terms Of Service: Permanent And Pensionsable
  • Annual Leave: 30 working days
  • Medical Cover: As provided by the County Government of Kisumu
  • Demonstrated a high degree of professional and managerial ability as reflected in work performance and results.
  • Those with foreign Degrees should have them authenticated by Commission for University Education (CUE). In addition, during the interview, they will be required to submit their academic certificates authenticated by the issuing institutions.
  • Chapter 6 requirements will only be required from successful candidates upon offer of job and not at the application stage.
