Job Summary

We are seeking to hire a detail-oriented, agile, and highly motivated Data Intern to support the data management, tracking, and reporting needs of a Rapid Results Initiative (RRI) for the Gitlab Eye Health & Livelihoods Project. The RRI operates on accelerated timelines to achieve high-performance targets. The Data Intern will play a crucial role in ensuring that daily and weekly performance metrics are accurately captured, cleaned, and synthesized. This role is ideal for a junior data professional or recent graduate looking to gain hands-on experience in fast-paced monitoring, evaluation, and adaptive project management.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Data Entry, Cleaning, and Quality Assurance

  • Maintain and update the RRI tracking sheets, databases, and daily dashboards.
  • Review incoming data from project sites/teams to identify gaps, duplicates, or inconsistencies.
  • Conduct routine data cleaning to ensure high data integrity for daily and weekly review meetings.

Monitoring & Reading Glasses Dispatchment Support

  • Assist in tracking daily performance indicators against the RRI milestones.
  • Support the compilation of daily and weekly progress data to help the team identify bottlenecks quickly.
  • Follow up with implementation teams to ensure timely submission of data touchpoints.
  • Assist in processing requests for reading glasses from facilities and sending them to the facilities

Data Visualisation & Reporting

  • Assist in updating simple, highly visual data dashboards or charts that clearly communicate RRI progress to the team and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the preparation of brief weekly bulleted updates and templates for data-driven check-ins.

Qualifications & Experience

Education: Degree or recent graduate in Health Records, Statistics, Information Technology, Health Informatics, Social Sciences, or a related field with a strong quantitative component.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including data sorting, filtering, basic formulas).

Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in data entry and a keen eye for spotting data anomalies.

Time Management: Ability to work efficiently under tight, daily deadlines inherent to an RRI sprint.

Competencies

Desired:

  • Basic understanding of monitoring and evaluation (M&E) concepts, rapid-cycle tracking and project management.
  • An interest in public health, specifically eye health programming.
