About eWATERservices

eWATERservices is a private water operator dedicated to providing 24/7 access to clean water to rural communities in Sub-Saharan Africa. Leveraging smart technology we install and maintain sustainable water systems serving underserved communities. Our innovative revenue collection and O&M models ensure system sustainability.

Role overview

The Chief of Staff is an operationally focused role that acts as a force multiplier for the Country Director and the wider Kenya leadership team. Your job is to help the business run well: keeping priorities moving, coordinating across teams and external stakeholders, improving how we work, and getting important work over the line - fast and to a high standard. You will operate at the centre of the organisation, working closely with senior leadership to support effective decision-making and delivery across operations, partnerships and growth.

This role is ideal for someone ambitious, proactive and highly organised who enjoys variety and thrives in a fast-paced environment. You will pick up a wide range of work – from practical operational support (e.g. logistics, recruitment coordination, budget checks, internal communications) through to higher-trust responsibilities (e.g. supporting meetings with senior county officials, helping shape funding proposals and pitches, and coordinating events and stakeholder engagement). The work will change week-to-week; what stays constant is the expectation of strong judgement, ownership and reliable execution.

eWATERservices is growing rapidly and expanding into new counties, programmes and partnerships. As we scale, new leadership and specialist roles continuously emerge. This position offers significant progression opportunities for someone who consistently delivers, improves systems and becomes a trusted operator across the organisation

Areas of focus

The exact mix of work will evolve based on organisational needs. Typical areas include:

Leadership support & prioritisation: keeping key priorities moving, tracking actions and deadlines, preparing briefs, and ensuring follow-up.

Cross-team coordination & execution: coordinating across operations, with a strong eye on budgets and close integration with finance/admin, partnerships and technical teams to unblock delivery and close out tasks.

Operational support & problem solving: stepping into urgent or important operational needs, troubleshooting, and improving how work gets done.

Stakeholder and government engagement support: supporting preparation and logistics for meetings with county officials and other senior stakeholders; ensuring actions are captured and driven.

Funding and proposal support: supporting proposal preparation, evidence gathering, packaging materials, and internal coordination to meet deadlines.

People and culture support: coordinating recruitment logistics, onboarding coordination, team days, internal communications and organisational rhythm.

Planning, reporting and information management: building and maintaining simple but effective trackers, dashboards, meeting packs, and documentation so leadership has visibility and teams stay aligned.

Skills, capabilities and mindset

Ambitious and proactive: you see problems before they land, propose solutions, and take ownership.

Execution-focused: you like getting things done; you close loops and drive to completion.

Highly organised: strong planning, prioritisation and attention to detail across multiple workstreams.

A fast learner: you can quickly understand new topics (technical, operational, financial) and become effective without excessive guidance.

A strong communicator: clear writing, confident speaking, and good stakeholder management; able to operate with professionalism in senior settings.

Comfortable with ambiguity: you can work without a fixed scope, stay calm under pressure, and make sensible decisions.

Technologically literate and numerate: confident with digital tools and data; able to work accurately with numbers and spot issues early.

Continuous improvement oriented: you naturally look for ways to simplify, standardise, and raise quality across the business.

Experience and requirements

Strong working ability with Excel/Google Sheets, Word/Google Docs, and PowerPoint/Google Slides (building clear packs, trackers, and summaries).

Good comfort working with budgets and basic financial checks (e.g., verifying totals, reconciling simple trackers, spotting anomalies).

Experience coordinating multiple parties (internal teams and external stakeholders) and managing deadlines.

Water or infrastructure sector experience is an advantage, particularly experience working with county government, water service providers, but is not required.

3+ years of relevant experience in operations, programme delivery, chief-of-staff/EA+ops, consulting, high-growth start-ups, or similarly fast-paced environment is preferred

Fluent in English and Kiswahili (written and spoken).

Nairobi-based, with willingness to travel occasionally as required.

General responsibilities

Carry out duties in a professional manner, maintaining high standards of integrity, confidentiality, and respect in all interactions.

Follow company policies and procedures, and represent eWATERservices well with communities, partners and government stakeholders.

Undertake other duties as reasonably required to support the effective operation of the business.
