Job Summary

The School Driver is responsible for providing safe, reliable, and timely transportation for students, staff, and school property. The role involves ensuring the vehicle is well-maintained, complying with traffic regulations, and promoting the safety and welfare of all passengers.

Key Responsibilities

Transportation Services

  • Safely transport students, staff, and authorized visitors to and from designated locations.
  • Follow approved routes and schedules while ensuring punctuality.
  • Assist students during boarding and alighting where necessary.
  • Ensure passenger safety throughout each journey.

Vehicle Maintenance

  • Conduct daily vehicle inspections before and after trips.
  • Monitor fuel, oil, water, tyre pressure, and general vehicle condition.
  • Report mechanical faults, accidents, or maintenance requirements promptly.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and roadworthiness of the assigned vehicle.

Safety & Compliance

  • Comply with all traffic laws, road safety regulations, and school transport policies.
  • Maintain valid driving licences and any required certifications.
  • Keep accurate records of trips, mileage, fuel usage, and maintenance.
  • Ensure emergency equipment is available and functional.

Administrative Support

  • Assist with the transportation of school supplies and equipment when required.
  • Support school activities that require transport services.
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality while representing the school.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of a secondary school education or equivalent.
  • Valid driving licence appropriate for the assigned vehicle.
  • Valid Certificate of Good Conduct (where applicable).
  • Defensive driving training is an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year driving experience, preferably in a school, institution, or corporate environment.

Core Competencies

  • Safe and defensive driving skills.
  • Knowledge of traffic laws and road safety regulations.
  • Time management and reliability.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic vehicle maintenance knowledge.
  • Professionalism, integrity, and accountability.
