Responsibilities or duties

Under the overall supervision of the Snr. Programme Management Officer/Project Manager, the Assistant Field Coordinator will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Provide technical assistance to the county government, municipal board and the County Program Coordination Team (CPCT) of KUSP2, and various partners in line with the TA requirements of this project and KUSP2-WHR objectives:
  • Support field coordination for the project at the county and municipal level.
  • Support with technical and logistical planning and coordination in designing, scheduling and execution of field activities scheduled by the project (including missions).
  • Support liaison and coordination among the municipal board and various partners in line with the urban development objectives of KUSP 2 (WHR).
  • Coordinate and report on field activities assigned by the project management.
  • Assist with administration of the field office operations.
  • Technical Assistance to County Government and Municipality in the planning and implementation of WHR’s UIG and UDG activities and projects:
  • Technical support to the county government and municipality in design and implementation of training and capacity building activities under the UIGs and their documentation.
  • Provide technical support to the county government, municipality and local partners with conceptualization, design and implementation of UIG activities/projects.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

Academic Qualifications: An advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in architecture, urban/town planning, environmental planning, urban management/human settlements management, civil engineering/infrastructure, development studies, land surveying/management, urban/land economy, economics or related areas is required. A first-level university degree, combined with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience, may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.

Experience needed

Work Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of progressive experience with a verifiable portfolio in providing technical support to infrastructure and basic services delivery projects, urban planning and development, urban management, and community-based development or programming in the context of Humanitarian-Development Nexus or related experience is required. Proven experience in research and technical writing is required

Any other provided details (e.g., benefits, work environment, team info, or additional notes)

  • Proven ability to work in multi-agency settings is desirable.
  • Experience with the public sector (local governments) work is desirable.
  • Experience working in hardship environments is desirable.
  • A relevant professional accreditation is highly desirable.
  • Work experience within the United Nations System or similar organization is desirable.
  • Work experience in humanitarian-development programming is highly desirable, especially in the Horn of Africa region’s refugee management context.
