General Purpose

Our client, a leading company in the food manufacturing industry, is seeking to recruit a competent and safety-focused Ammonia Plant Technical Operator to be responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining the ammonia refrigeration plant and CO2 secondary refrigeration system to ensure continuous cooling supply to production while maintaining the highest safety standards.

Location: Tilisi - Near Limuru | Gross Salary: Ksh. 30,000

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor the ammonia refrigeration plant to ensure continuous cooling supply to the factory.
  • Monitor plant parameters through the control system (DCS/PLC) including suction and discharge pressures, temperatures, refrigerant levels, and flow rates.
  • Operate and monitor key refrigeration equipment including ammonia compressors, condensers, evaporators, receivers, separators, pumps, and control valves.
  • Monitor the CO2 secondary refrigeration system to ensure proper circulation and pressure levels.
  • Respond promptly to system alarms, trips, and abnormal operating conditions from the control system.
  • Conduct routine inspections to detect ammonia leaks, abnormal noise, vibration, or equipment faults.
  • Maintain proper ammonia and oil levels in compressors and receivers.
  • Record plant operating parameters and maintain accurate shift logs and handover reports.
  • Support preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of refrigeration equipment.
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards (5S) within the refrigeration plant area.
  • Adhere strictly to GMP, FSMS, QMS, and OSHA safety standards, particularly in ammonia handling.
  • Immediately report ammonia leaks, gas detection alarms, equipment faults, or unsafe conditions.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Certificate or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Refrigeration, Air Conditioning, or Industrial Plant Operations.
  • 3+ years’ experience in industrial refrigeration or utilities operations.
  • Experience with ammonia plants is a MUST.
  • Knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems and CO2 secondary refrigeration systems.
  • Understanding of compressors, pumps, valves, condensers, and evaporators.
  • Ability to work in shifts and respond effectively to plant alarms and operational issues.
