Child Minder

Key Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Safe House Coordinator, the Child Minder will undertake the following functions:

  1. Provide direct supervision of all children of the young refugee women residing in the Safe House to ensure their well-being and safety throughout the day, including maintaining proper hygiene, feeding/meal times, changing diapers, supervising nap times, etc.
  2. Organize and facilitate games and learning activities for the children.
  3. Report any accidents, including scrapes and bruises, immediately to your Supervisor and the mother of the affected child.
  4. Report any significant behavioral changes or issues to your Supervisor and mother of the affected child.
  5. Support mothers in providing proper care and development for their children.
  6. Maintain an updated inventory of all Safe House goods and supplies, including food, cleaning materials, kitchen utensils, toys, games, etc. and request any new items for your Supervisor to procure in a timely manner.
  7. Maintain general cleanliness and organization of the children’s areas in the Safe House and ensure the space is hygienic.
  8. Report all equipment, furniture, or general office breakages to your Supervisor in a timely manner.
  9. Present yourself for work daily and on time, unless prior approval has been granted by the CEO and your Supervisor.
  10. Maintain strict confidentiality with regard to each participant served by any and all RefuSHE Kenya programs and the location and details of the Safe House.
  11. Refrain from sharing any information, data, contacts or photos of RefuSHE Kenya Persons of Concern to a third party.
  12. Liaise with the security officers on duty to ensure maximum security and a safe environment for the Safe House residents and their belongings, as well as RefuSHE Kenya assets.
  13. Promote high levels of discipline and peaceful/harmonious coexistence of the residents, respecting their diversity and cultures.
  14. Ensure effective and careful use of organizational assets assigned to you or put under your custody to facilitate smooth undertaking of your duties. This includes but is not limited to padlocks, emergency batons, torches, and cell phone.
  15. Perform any other lawful duties that may be assigned to you by your Supervisor.

  • Patience: Able to respond to overwhelming and difficult situations calmly, and to be patient with children who have difficulty expressing themselves or need lots of help in learning new skills.
  • Creativity: Able to think of new and innovative ways to engage children in learning.

Qualifications

  • KCSE Certificate.
  • A Diploma in Early Childhood Development & Education (ECDE), or a Montessori/DICECE certificate in Early Childhood is preferable.
  • Minimum one year’s experience working with children between 3 months and 3 years of age, either in a safe house, day care set up, or children’s home.
  • Experience in First Aid.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and other child protection issues.

Monitoring & Evaluation Manager

Key Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Chief Investment and Resource Officer, and with oversight from the CEO, the M&E Manager will undertake the following functions:

  1. Spearhead the development or improvement of qualitative and quantitative monitoring and evaluation tools and processes for existing and future programs, as needed and with input from Program Managers.
  2. Periodically review the monitoring and evaluation tools in place to ensure they are still relevant and are producing useful, timely, and accurate data, and make suggestions for improvement where relevant.
  3. Oversee all M&E activities for current grants/programs, including monitoring data quality, and tracking progress of activities against targets.
  4. Support Program Managers in strengthening their program monitoring systems and analyzing data as part of the internal quality assurance mechanism for program delivery.
  5. Participate in quarterly reviews of program progress and, together with the M&E Officer, ensure any disparities between planned and actual outputs and outcomes are addressed.
  6. Ensure individual program M&E plans are updated on an annual basis, or as needed when new program elements emerge.
  7. Analyze, utilize, and communicate relevant programs data to senior leadership for program improvement and decision making.
  8. In collaboration with the Chief Investment & Resource Officer and Program Team, lead the development of realistic targets and indicators for grant proposals and/or new grants.
  9. Develop tools required for research projects, including study design methodologies, sampling protocols, surveys, data collection methods, and data analysis, management, storage, and retrieval processes.
  10. In collaboration with the Grants Manager, lead in the reporting of program qualitative and quantitative data and progress against indicators for all donor reports.
  11. Lead the development of an M&E policy for the organization and an overall M&E framework for the holistic model.
  12. Develop Terms of Reference and manage consultants conducting program baselines, mid-term evaluations, and end-of-project evaluations.
  13. Identify staff capacity building needs and train and mentor the RefuSHE program team in M&E systems and practices.
  14. Facilitate knowledge building and sharing on research, monitoring, and evaluation, including participating in the Refugee Self-Reliance Initiative learning calls and other webinars / forums as appropriate.
  15. Support in the dissemination of results via presentations and reports to various audiences.
  16. Perform any other lawful duties that may be assigned to you by your supervisor or the CEO.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline (for example, education, social science, economics, development studies) and 7 years’ relevant experience, or Master’s Degree and 5 years’ relevant experience.
  • Experience in the design, development, and implementation of monitoring and evaluation policies, systems, and tools with staff and partners; experience with programs that support marginalized and vulnerable youth strongly preferred.
  • Quantitative and qualitative analysis skills, and proven ability to work with data software packages such as Stata/SPSS/KOBO.
  • Practical expertise in developing logical/results frameworks and defining indicators using SMART/CREAM/SPICED standards.
  • Strong writing skills in English, as demonstrated by the ability to produce high quality reports.
  • Ability to speak and translate key documents into Kiswahili.
  • Confident user of MS Office software.

Senior Human Resources and Administration Officer

Position Summary

We are currently seeking an experienced Human Resources professional to join our Operations team. In this role, you will lead the routine Human Resources (HR) functions of RefuSHE Kenya, including talent management, payroll administration, occupational health and safety, and enforcing organizational HR policies and practices. You will also oversee administrative services, including line management of two members of the administrative staff team.

Key Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, the Senior Human Resources and Administration Officer will undertake the following functions:

  1. Manage the recruitment and selection process to ensure attraction of competent talent.
  2. Coordinate the induction program for new staff with heads of department and program managers.
  3. Assist the CEO to coordinate staff training and development and team building activities.
  4. Oversee compensation and benefits provided to staff and administer the monthly payroll in liaison with the Finance Department, ensuring that salary payments and statutory deductions are processed on time.
  5. Keep proper records of staff contracts and renewal dates and liaise with the CEO to advise staff in advance of renewals and non-renewals.
  6. Keep track of staff objective setting, performance appraisals, and leave balances.
  7. Maintain staff personnel files, both physical and online, whilst maintaining confidentiality.
  8. Ensure organizational compliance with relevant licenses such as food handling, public health, fire clearance and OSHA certificates.
  9. Review HR policies and procedures as requested by your supervisor or the CEO.
  10. Handle staff grievances, disputes, and disciplinary cases in accordance with Kenyan employment laws and organizational policies.
  11. Review final dues and payments for exiting staff to ensure accuracy and compliance with labour laws.
  12. Support the general well-being of staff by promoting and implementing health and wellness activities to help avoid burnout, including events run by the organization’s medical insurance provider.
  13. Serve as a link between managers and staff by handling queries and providing pragmatic and consistent guidance on performance and other staff issues.
  14. Recommend improvements to administration systems and procedures.
  15. Monitor the organizational enquiries email address and refer issues to relevant senior managers.
  16. Perform any other lawful duties that may be assigned to you by your supervisor.

  • Excellent command of English and Kiswahili.
  • Confident user of MS Office software.
  • In-depth knowledge of Kenyan employment law and HR best practices.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and other child protection issues is desirable
