JOB DETAILS:
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
Responsibilities
Under the overall supervision of the Gender Programme Management Officer and the day-to-day supervision of the Gender Officer the intern will be responsible for the following:
• Support gender mainstreaming by reviewing project proposals, publications and related documents and providing feedback
• Carry out research and summarize key developments and emerging trends related to gender and the environment
• Participate in group discussions and contribute insights, ideas and feedback on key topics and issues
• Provide support to the Gender and Safeguards Unit and assist with planning and coordinating meetings and events
• Provide support to the International Gender Champions (IGC) Nairobi Hub Coordinator and assist with planning and coordinating meetings and events of the hub
• Performs other duties as required

Education
Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
• Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
• Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
• Have graduated with a university degree.
• Preferred area of study: A university degree in Gender Studies or Environmental Science, Sustainable Development, or related field with courses on gender in the pursued curriculum is preferred.
• Be computer literate in standard software applications.
• Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
• Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
