It was started in 1981 as a Middle Level College (Jomo Kenyatta College of Agriculture and Technology (JKCAT)) by the Government of Kenya with the generous assistance from the Japanese Government. Plans for the establishment of JKCAT started in 1977

Senior Counselor I, Grade 12

Qualifications:
The candidate must possess:
- Master’s Degree from a recognized University and at five (5) years’ experience at Grade 11 or equivalent position OR
- PhD in the relevant field All applicants must be registered with relevant professional body
Senior Counselor II, Grade 11

Qualifications:
The candidate must possess:
- Master’s degree in Counseling or relevant field with five (5) years’ experience in grade 10 or equivalent position

- Higher National Diploma in Counseling with five (5) years’ experience in grade 8 or equivalent position
OR
- Bachelor’s degree in Counseling with five (5) years’ experience in grade 8 or equivalent position
OR
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences and a Diploma in Counseling with five (5) years’ experience in grade 8 or equivalent position
