Clinical Nurse, Karen Executive Clinic

Applications are invited from qualified candidates for the above position based in Nairobi Kenya. The position holder will report to the Clinical Quality & Patient Safety Manager and to the Outreach Operation’s Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Complete head to toe assessment and re-assessment of patients to identify their care needs
  • Develop written care plans based on patients’ needs, monitor and evaluate effectiveness of interventions
  • Carry out hemodynamic monitoring to include vital signs, neurological and fluid status; labs and radiological evaluations
  • Document all assessment data, investigation results, care given, discussions with the multidisciplinary team, family/patient interactions in an accurate, comprehensive and timely manner
  • Administer medication safely, monitor patient responses to medication and report adverse reactions promptly.
  • Dispose of clinical and non-clinical waste safely in accordance with Aga khan University Hospital Guidelines on waste management.
  • Prepare for and assist physicians to perform various procedures in the clinic.
  • Maintain adequate airway management to include oxygen therapy, nebulization and suctioning
  • Perform pain assessment and initiate analgesia as per protocol
  • Promptly report both clinical and non-clinical unusual findings/incidences to the Clinic in charge, Clinical Quality Manager or Operations Manager.
  • Identify patient and family education needs and implement appropriate teaching  
  • Provide safe environment for patients through adherence to infection control practices and other safety policies, and perform timely safety checks on restraints, examination coaches, oxygen source and other medical equipment in the clinic.
  • Be accountable for judicious and efficient use of resources i.e. accurate and timely billing of clinic stock drugs and consumables
  • Care for equipment through proper cleaning, storage, per shift check of the inventory and timely reporting and follow up of non-functional equipment to the Operations manager
  • Follow discharge procedure of the out patients according to hospital protocol, and ensure follow up appointments are made where needed.
  • Participate in clinic based nursing education, quality improvement (QI) projects, audits, spot checks and skill checks

Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse from a recognized school of nursing or University
  • Current licensure with the Nursing Council of Kenya
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Minimum requirement of 5 years’ continuous clinical experience in medical surgical Nursing.
  • Demonstrate evidence based knowledge of the current practices in general nursing in an outpatient set up
  • Demonstrate leadership skills

 

Pharmaceutical Technologist, Karen Executive Clinic

Applications are invited from qualified candidates for the above position based in Nairobi, Kenya. The position holder will be responsible for providing effective and efficient pharmacy services to ensure departmental and institutional inventory, quality and customer service goals are met.

Responsibilities:

  • Receive, verify prescriptions and dispense drugs in a timely manner within approved standards and procedures.
  • Contact the physician immediately for inaccuracy and illegibility in a prescription order, document errors and communicate them to the nursing and pharmacy staff
  • Verify expiry dates of drugs prior to dispensing medication to patients/customers.
  • Check that every label placed on the medications contains the correct patient name, drug, quantity and directions.
  • Compound extemporaneous preparations and mix certain intravenous medications as per laid down procedures.
  • Counsel patients on drug administration and use of devices for optimum wellness and recovery.
  • Receive, return and update drug credits on the system in a timely manner.
  • Deliver drug discharges to patients in the ward where applicable
  • Communicate out of stock and non-stock effectively and timely to prescriber and nurse and provide alternative choice or make arrangements to order promptly.
  • Comply and observe the environmental health and safety measures and regulations by proper handling, storage and dispensation of medications
  • Record, monitor and update the expiry list of medications in timely manner.
  • Complete documentation of Interventions, Medication errors and Near Miss, Adverse events, Medication queries, Patient complaints or any other incidents and forward to relevant office
  • Perform random medication checks daily and Monitor variance levels in your respective satellites.
  • Compile daily satellite reports.
  • Carry out regular satellite stock-take exercise.
  • Report any special indicators allocated.

Requirements:

  • Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized institution
  • Registered with The Kenya Pharmaceutical Association
  • Practicing License from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
  • 2 year working experience in a busy facility, preferably a hospital

 

Team Leader, Karen Executive Clinic

  • Ensure maintenance of high standards of hygiene and general cleanliness and that the infection control guidelines are adhered to at the Centre.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Business related field with an added advantage in Public relations
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in customer service role/s in hospitality or health care industry
  • Excellent customer service skills and good listener
  • Able to develop and maintain effective working relationship will all departments
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills and dealing with problems

 

Dental Surgeon, Karen Executive Clinic

Applications are invited from qualified candidates for the above position based in Nairobi, Kenya. The incumbent will be responsible for providing quality and comprehensive Oral Health Care and Dental Services using the most up to date techniques and equipment. The position holder will report to Manager – Dental Clinics.

Responsibilities:

  • Carry out emergency dental procedures as well as attend to non-emergency procedures;
  • Counsel patients on oral hygiene instruction and demonstrate techniques to achieve this.
  • Examine, diagnose and treat general oral diseases
  • Educate patients on preventive dental care and oral health care
  • Records care provided in electronic health record system accurately and completely, reflecting the nature of the contact, the condition of the patient and the care or treatment provided. Complete referrals, data collections instruments and other records or documents as required.
  • Dental Implant case diagnosis, treatment and long term follow up
  • Liaise with Consultants on adequate referral and follow up on specialized cases
  • Liaise with Consultants on handling specialized cases in the provision of patient dental health care
  • Supervise dental auxiliary staff to ensure application of proper technique and methods; update staff on new practices and procedure.
  • Review and develop appropriate policies and procedures for patient care to formulate best practice guidelines

Requirements:

  • Bachelors of Dental Surgery
  • Registration by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board
  • Certificate in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Certificate in Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in general dentistry and dental implants
  • Clinical experience in Orofacial Pain and Oral Medicine: patient education, diagnosis and treatment modalities
  • Experience in implementation of quality and patient safety programs
